Plot Wines: Selecting the Best of Our Douro
A “terroir” wine seeks to capture the essence of a region, while a parcel wine suggests that a small piece of land presents unique conditions, such as soil, altitude, sun exposure, and climate, that deserve to be explored in a single, unrepeatable wine that truly honours the parcel.
At Poças, after closely monitoring the life of our vineyards, we identified two exceptional specific plots that we had to let shine above all others: “Ribeira de Teja,” located at Quinta de Vale de Cavalos (Douro Superior), and a parcel of Old Vines, called “Cerro 1,” located at Quinta de Santa Bárbara (Cima Corgo).
The wines we’ve created from these plots are a testament to just how special they are.

Vinha do Cerro 2022
Sourced from the “Cerro 1” plot at Quinta de Santa Bárbara, this red wine is made from old vines where several traditional grape varieties coexist in a “field blend.” These low-yield vines guarantee an exceptional concentration in every grape berry, resulting in a wine with remarkable depth and complexity. The eastern sun exposure of this small hill (known as “cerro” in Portuguese) provides gentle and gradual light, resulting in a natural freshness, despite the intense heat really common in this region. Even with a steep and dry landscape, the deep-rooted old vines flourish, proving their resilience and delivering a powerful red wine with character, to which it becomes impossible to resist.
Branco da Ribeira 2022
This wine comes from the “Ribeira de Teja” plot at Quinta de Vale de Cavalos, our “heartland” for white grapes. Here, the soil is a rare mix of schist and granite, which brings a unique minerality to the wine. The main grape varieties in this wine are Arinto and Códega, with Arinto consistently taking the lead, both providing freshness and acidity. The vineyard’s altitude helps maintain milder temperatures, resulting in a fresh and balanced white wine with an unusual and unforgettable minerality.
With these two wines, we invite you to dive deep into the very best that the Douro has to offer.
