Illustrated Tongue Twisters

Our Tongue Twister (or Trava-Línguas, as some may call it) has the unique ability to go by different names and change its appearance depending on the language and culture of the target market.

Since the beginning of this project in 2021, we have challenged several artists to create their visual interpretation of a different tongue twister, thus giving rise to a collection of unique and fun labels.

For the 1^st Trava-Línguas, in the Portuguese market, we’ve collaborated with André da Loba, a renowned Portuguese illustrator, whose work is an invitation to change the world. Taking as inspiration a combination of curiosity, experience, knowledge – and even ignorance, it gave life and colour to a tongue twister that we, Portuguese people, know so well: “O Rato roeu a rolha da garrafa de rum”, which means something weird  and non-sense like “The rat gnawed the cork of the rum bottle.”

In Quebec, Canada, we’ve worked with Julien Posture, an artist who lives and works between Montreal and the UK, and who likes to create simple images that question our social representations through small details. He brought to life the French tongue twister “Les chemises de l’Archi Duchesse sont-elles sèches ou archi-sèches?”.

For the latest Trava-Línguas Vinho Verde, aimed at different markets, we relied on the colourful and imaginative world of illustrator Mariana Malhão, who brilliantly represented the tongue twister: “The greener green grapes are, the keener keen apes are.”

And so, we proudly continue arm in arm with art, bringing new lives and colours to wine. Because we all know that we also taste with our eyes.
